We are currently looking to expand our team in line with increasing business demands and now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and talented part-time chef to join our small and friendly, family-run operation at The Sun Cafe + Bar in Wheatley, Oxford. 

Tuesday-Saturday we offer a small but regularly changing menu offering breakfast, lunch and daily specials with an emphasis on simple, fresh, healthy and imaginative dishes. Friday and Saturday evenings we offer small plates + sharing boards and on a Sunday breakfast  9.30am-11am and then roasts from 12pm-3pm, with a choice of meats and all of the trimmings!

We are looking to recruit for a few daytime shifts working from around 8am-4pm (approx.)


Main responsibilities will include:


  • Well organised, and passionate about their work. Ability to work independently in a small kitchen, keep a cool head under pressure

  • Able to demonstrate a strong understanding of kitchen cleanliness, food safety - ensuring the highest possible standard of hygiene and food safety at all times. A valid Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum level 1, desirable level 2) is preferred (or taken as soon as possible if not held)  and have a high standard of personal hygiene.

  • Keeping all required kitchen records, eg. regular fridge and freezer temperature and other checks. A clear understanding of allergens, the importance of food labelling and stock rotation.

  • On occasion, there will be opportunities to pick up extra hours during the head chef’s holiday or sick days, where you will take responsibility for the operation of the kitchen. 

(An induction will be given, where any additional training required will be provided by the head chef.)
